A pro-immigration demonstration draws dozens of people

Jonesboro, Arkansas – To support immigrants in the United States, dozens of people demonstrated on Jonesboro’s streets.
On Saturday, February 1, a sizable crowd assembled to peacefully protest just outside JCPenney.
Following a series of executive orders signed by President Trump that targeted immigrants in the nation, this rally and others across the nation followed suit. In order to “protect the American people against invasion,” the president issued the directives.
The demonstration involved dozens of participants, including Jimena Aguilar and Vanessa Hernández.
“We are classified as criminals simply because we are Hispanic, Latino, Native American, and occasionally even African American,” Aguilar stated. We all contribute, pay taxes, spend money, and don’t try to accomplish anything. We all agree that those who commit crimes harm us, but not everyone is like that.
People were supporting the protest by honking up and down the route. A few even paused and joined.
There is a voice for everyone, and we don’t want anyone to feel alone. We are here, we are your voices, and this has to end,” Hernández stated. “It means a lot, we all are not alone, nobody is alone, and everybody coming together, it means a lot for us.” Keep families together.
The individuals who came together today aspire to speak for the entire nation, not just the Northeast Arkansas region. Just as many American flags were being waved by them as those of Hispanic nations.
“That was our goal as well, having both the Mexican and American flags, because we want to show that we love this country but remember our roots,” Aguilar stated.
The Jonesboro Police Department did arrive, but only to make sure everyone was safe. According to Aguilar and Hernández, they intend to continue the fight and take on more tasks.
