ADH releases information on 2022-23 flu season

Jonesboro, Arkansas – Each week, the Arkansas Department of Health publishes a report on flu infections that includes data on everything from fatalities to rates of absence at schools.
The ADH noted a “high” activity level of influenza-like illness on January 3rd.
92% of this season’s flu antigen tests were for influenza A, and 8% were for influenza B.
More than 18,800 positive influenza test results have been reported to the agency by healthcare professionals since October 2.
For the week ending Saturday, Dec. 31, the ADH reported:
• 108 influenza-related deaths this season (+7), including 1 pediatric death. Of these, 77% were not vaccinated.
• 60 flu-related hospital admissions for the week, 1,197 for the season
• 20 nursing homes reported influenza outbreaks
• The average public school absenteeism rate last week was not reported due to the holidays
Each local health unit in the state offers flu vaccines, according to the ADH flu website. The health units have no out-of-pocket costs, but visitors are urged to bring their insurance cards.
