An Arkansas organization is actively engaged in providing assistance to Syria
Little Rock, Arkansas – The impact of the ongoing situation in Syria is being felt in the U.S., including in Arkansas.
A local organization based in Conway, the Syrian Emergency Task Force has dedicated years to providing assistance abroad.
Moaz Moustafa, the executive director, is heading into Damascus following years of efforts to deliver aid to the Syrian people. During our phone conversation, he expressed the excitement that people are currently experiencing.
During the weekend, Syrian rebels seized control from the Assad regime, which had maintained its dictatorship for fifty years. Video captures the joyous celebrations of individuals as they embrace what lies ahead.
“The current situation in Syria is one of total joy,” stated Natalie Larrison, director of humanitarian programs for the Syrian Emergency Task Force.
In Arkansas, the Syrian Emergency Task Force has been providing assistance to those affected by the dictatorship and ongoing unrest for many years.
We are thrilled. These individuals are Syrians escaping from Syria. “That’s a crucial message,” stated Jerry Adams, chair of the board of directors for the Syrian Emergency Task Force.
The Assad family has maintained control over the country since the 1970s, supported by allies including Russia and Iran. The nation has been embroiled in a civil war for over ten years, exacerbating the ongoing turmoil.
The current circumstances are highly unstable. Bill Topich, chair of the social sciences department at Pulaski Academy, stated, “Both the Trump administration and the current administration have expressed a desire to avoid involvement in Syria. However, the truth is that the United States cannot afford to see Syria become a failed state.”
What are the next steps? Attention is focused on Syria’s future, with neighboring countries and various extremist groups, including ISIS, potentially poised to influence the next shift in power.
“Our concern for the Syrian people is profound, and it reflects on the global stage the fundamental truth that everyone deserves education, healthcare, rights, and dignity,” stated Larrison.
Nonetheless, the current situation in Syria is anticipated to have no effect on the U.S. economy.
Topich stated that any oil obtained by America from the northern region of Syria is mainly under the control of Turkey.
