An investigation is ongoing following a standoff with Maumelle police that results in one death

Maumelle, Arkansas – Following a Saturday afternoon standoff between Maumelle police and an armed individual that resulted in one fatality, Arkansas State Police are currently conducting an investigation.
At approximately 2:00 p.m. on January 11, Maumelle Police Department officers were reportedly summoned to Crystal Hill Road regarding a knife-wielding, allegedly mentally unstable individual.
Officers said that when they arrived, they discovered the individual carrying a knife and acting erratically. After that, they allegedly made an unsuccessful attempt to settle the dispute amicably for almost forty-five minutes.
Following the unsuccessful application of a taser, the officers said that the individual had approached them in a “threatening manner.”
He was later declared dead at the hospital after the officers opened fire on him.
The victim’s identity and the identities of any cops involved in the incident have not been made public. According to reports, the encounter did not result in any injuries to any officers.
However, an investigation has now been requested by Arkansas State Police. Until the inquiry is finished, the involved officers are on administrative leave.
