Arkansas’ coronavirus active cases and hospitalizations were down Wednesday, reported health officials.

Officials reported 1,092 cases of the virus. Of those cases, 632 were confirmed and 460 were probable. Active cases in the state have decreased to 14,190, down 708 from Tuesday.

Virus hospitalizations have decreased by 40 to 735. Currently, there are 138 patients on ventilators. There were 26 more deaths linked to COVID-19 on Wednesday, bringing the state’s death toll to 5,174.

The top counties for new cases are Pulaski, 163; Washington, 85; Benton, 71; Saline, 68; and Faulkner, 56.

“Compared to last week, there are over 1,300 fewer new cases and over 2,300 fewer active cases. Our mitigation efforts are working, but we cannot use this as an excuse to relax. This virus can spread rapidly, and we all must work together to defeat it,” said Gov. Asa Hutchinson on Wednesday.

The state has received 651,475 vaccines since federal distribution began Dec. 14, including 200 delivered within the past 24 hours. As of Wednesday, 425,873 doses of the vaccine have been given in the state.
