Little Rock, Arkansas – Asa Hutchinson, the governor of Arkansas, has declared his intention to run for president of the United States.

When Hutchinson leaves the governor’s office in January 2023, he stated he wants to spend more time with his wife Susan and their six grandchildren.

He claims he has other plans after that.

“I plan to be in Iowa, South Carolina, New Hampshire and so we’re looking at 2024,” Hutchinson said. “It’s a very important time for our country.”

During an interview with Yuna Lee of 40/29 for the 40/29 On The Record segment, Hutchinson made these remarks. On November 13, 2022, at 10:30 a.m., more of the interview will air on On The Record.

Hutchinson has previously discussed the possibility of running for president. He declared in May 2022 that he would be open to running regardless of whether former President Donald Trump does.

Since 2015, Hutchinson has presided as the governor of Arkansas. Former White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders is taking over for him after he completed the maximum two terms allowed by the state.

Prior to this, Hutchinson held the positions of Director of the Drug Enforcement Administration and Under Secretary for Border and Transportation Security at the Department of Homeland Security. This is a selling point, he claims.

“I believe I have a very unique message from Arkansas and experience in D.C. with the border and national security issues come to bear,” he said.

Hutchinson describes himself as a Republican who is “middle of the road.”

“We need a voice of common-sense conservativism and where you can bring people together and have candidates that can win in Nov. and not just the primary,” he said. “And I think I offer that, so we have a big decision to make.”

Hutchinson is not the only well-known Arkansan who is thinking about running for president in 2024.

Senator of the United States Tom Cotton had been considering a run, but earlier this week he told news organizations he had changed his mind.
