Black River Technical College to offer career, technical certifications in Clay County



Clay County, Arkansas – If you live in Clay County, you will soon have the opportunity to educate yourself and prepare for a career in manufacturing.

The Armory at BRTC in Piggott was dedicated by Black River Technical College, according to content partner Talk Business and Politics.

For kids in Piggott, Corning, Rector, and nearby villages, the website will offer professional and technical certification options, according to officials.

“We transform lives and enhance the community we serve, and we are thrilled to now be able to serve Clay County better than ever,” BRTC Director of Career, Technical, and Concurrent Education Darenda Kersey said.

Classes in welding, robotics, automation, distribution, and logistics will start in the fall of 2023.

Asa Hutchinson, the governor of Arkansas, mentioned expanding educational access across the state as one of his key goals during the dedication. He stated that the growth would continue to be exponential for years.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for the people of Clay County,” Hutchinson said.

The college received a $350,000 grant from the Arkansas Department of Education to construct a welding lab classroom and purchase equipment. Additionally, $127,000 was given by the Arkansas Office of Skills Development to rebuild the armory and add robotic and conveyor technology.

For the purpose of installing a three-phase transformer, the city of Piggott donated labor and supplies.
