City officials are concerned about the hazardous traffic in the Little Rock area

Little Rock, Arkansas – One Little Rock neighborhood has recently found itself torn between safety and development.
Residents claim that while College Station’s growth offered new possibilities and jobs, it also brought unsafe roadways.
“Every day there’s a chance of someone getting hurt or killed,” declared College Station resident Virgil Dexter Doyne, who is a member of the Progressive League.
A recent traffic count, according to Doyne, revealed that thousands of cars and semi-trucks are slicing through the region with high pedestrian traffic, despite signs warning of “no thru trucks.”
He added that there are dozens of homes, an elementary school, and multiple churches along a particular section of the route.
Because there are few or no sidewalks in the neighborhood, there are additional worries regarding pedestrian safety.
“We don’t have developed streets with curbs and gutters and sidewalks to create a safety barrier for this traffic,” Doyne said.
He addressed his concerns to the Little Rock officials on Tuesday.
He provided them with alternatives to assist in addressing the issue, such as speed bumps, more signage to discourage traffic, police presence, and a city rule that forbids traffic.
Several filmmakers responded by expressing their support.
“After a horrible accident, I don’t want everyone to claim that we ought to have taken action. The time to act is now,” Little Rock director Virgil Miller stated.
“I will have the city look into adding more signs and speed bumps in that area,” stated Mayor Frank Scott Jr.
