Following a recent incident, city officials convene a collective prayer session

Jonesboro, Arkansas – Jonesboro leaders and citizens came together for a prayer session on Saturday morning to pray for the city.
The event was arranged by the Craighead County NAACP and included remarks and prayers from preachers and pastors in the area, as well as remarks from Jonesboro Mayor Harold Copenhavor and Police Chief Rick Elliott.
This is the first of many phases as the community works to “address specific needs, collectively developing and enacting solutions together,” the city stated in a recent social media post.
“We have to lift up those who struggle,” said Mayor Copenhavor. “Struggle with addiction, struggle with fear; those who struggle with feeding their children, or knowing the right way on how to mentor the next generation.”
The program is being offered in response to recent crimes that have occurred in Jonesboro, including a mass shooting that left three people dead and seven injured, as well as local deaths from fentanyl overdoses.
