Following the horrible shooting, Fordyce makes an effort to adjust without a grocery store

Little Rock, Arkansas – With the Mad Butcher temporarily shuttered due to destruction, Fordyce is now without a neighborhood grocery store.

Pastor and councilman Roderick Rogers of Fordyce City recognized he had to step up to support his community during this trying time.

“It just started with a vision to serve our neighbors after something, I mean, a tragedy like this,” Rogers said.

The local grocery store was temporarily closed, so Rogers said he had to get to work when he heard a plea to assist feed Fordyce.

“We just wanted to shed some light on the dark situation, so we have partnered together with other people, just to make sure people of Fordyce have the resources and the food they need,” Rogers said.

The Mad Butcher was conveniently situated in the middle of the town, making it simple for those with and without cars to visit. The next store is located a town over, so that isn’t an option right now.

“A lot of our people don’t have transportation or the gas money,” Rogers said. “They can’t get to the Super Walmart or grocery store out of town, so we let them know that we’re thinking about them and take food to them.”

Groceries and other basics are being donated by people from all around the state. All this week, while they transport and assist in loading people’s cars with free food, Rogers and volunteers will be taking donations.

“We call it love and action, that is what it is,” Rogers said. “They just need a little help and we’re glad to do that for them.”

One meal pickup at a time, is done in remembrance of the lives lost and to assist the afflicted survivors in getting better.

“We’re just going to love our neighbors and we’re going to give, and we just want to make sure we respond with love and not hate,” Rogers said.

Donations for the free food distribution center can be dropped off between 9:30 and 11:30 a.m. at the Melvin Collins Sports Annex, 400 Short Street, Fordyce, AR 71742.
