Free counseling for tornado victims: Here’s what you need to know



Little Rock, Arkansas – Two weeks have passed since a catastrophic tornado tore through Central Arkansas, leaving behind debris that has to be cleaned up.

Many Arkansans are still laboring to rebuild and restore their homes to their former selves.

“You just get depressed as you head this way,” said a West Little Rock man.

His wife and daughter were home at the time the tornado struck, and the house sustained damage.

Although they are doing fine, according to the father, the emotional toll from the aftermath is still present.

For this reason, first responders as well as others who were affected by the storm are receiving assistance from Lesa Doan with the Central Arkansas Trauma Recovery Network.

“Stress affects the body,” Doan said. “It can come out in different ways like anxiety and depression.”

Next week, both adults and kids can receive free treatment from Doan and other qualified counselors.

Starting on April 20, there are many ways to schedule a counseling appointment:

• April 20— First responders can meet with someone
o 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

• April 21— Sessions are available for anyone who needs help
o 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
o 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
o 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
