Inmate dies by electrocution in Benton work release unit
Benton, Arkansas – On Friday, officials from the Arkansas Board of Corrections announced that an inmate had died as a result of electrocution, which occurred as a result of an accident that occurred at the Benton Work Release Unit of the Arkansas Department of Corrections.
According to officials from the corrections department, Nathan Boursh, who is 42 years old, was a member of the grounds crew at the prison, which was performing routine maintenance.
Boursh allegedly used a metal pole that he discovered while working near a pond in order to retrieve a fishing lure that was tied around an electrical power line, according to witnesses who were present at the location to witness the incident. It is believed that Boursh was electrocuted when the pole made contact with the line, according to the officials.
Boursh was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was confirmed dead after being carried there. According to the authorities, life-saving procedures were initiated at the scene of the accident.
Detectives from the Arkansas State Police are currently conducting an investigation into the death, and the department is also conducting an investigation within the department.
