Jailer in Jefferson County detained for bringing drugs to inmates

Jefferson County, Arkansas – On Friday, September 30, a Jefferson County Sheriff’s Adult Detention Deputy was detained after being discovered bringing illegal items into the W.C. “Dub” Brassell Detention Center (DBDC).
Joshua Brown, 22, was arrested this evening while reporting for work at the detention center after jail supervisors discovered him hiding unlawful and prohibited things.
In exchange for cash, Brown intended to provide cigarettes, narcotics, cell phones, and chargers to a prisoner there.
“We have a zero-tolerance policy against contraband and we will seek the maximum penalty possible for those who choose to ignore it and violate the law. They must know that they will be caught, arrested, and prosecuted to the fullest extent possible,” said Sheriff Lafayette Woods, Jr.
When the Tri-County Drug Task Force searched Brown’s car as a result of additional inquiry, they discovered a gun and multiple magazines.
“Thanks to the diligence and attentiveness of our supervisory staff, the introduction of this contraband into the detention center was averted today”, he added.
Possession of a controlled substance with the intent to deliver it, simultaneous possession of drugs and firearms, and furnishing, having, or using prohibited materials were among the infractions for which Brown was arrested and charged with probable cause.
“Bringing unauthorized items such as drugs and phones into the detention facility threatens the safety and security of our facility as well as that of those who work and are detained therein,” said Sheriff Woods.
