Norman’s Neighborhood: A friendship with Miss Stevens that has lasted for 25 years is growing
North Little Rock, Arkansas – Nothing compares to receiving a warm welcome, and Tommy Norman, a North Little Rock police officer, has experienced one while visiting Miss Stevens for almost thirty years.
Officer Norman remarked, “She’s a trailblazer in the community with a gentle voice and a charming smile.”
Officer Norman and Miss Stevens first crossed paths in 1998, when Norman was a rookie police officer providing security for a nearby North Little Rock grocery shop.
With a broad smile, Miss Stevens remarked, “I won’t forget it.”
Officer Norman remarked, “Her spirit has really helped me throughout my career.”
The relationship between Norman and Miss Stevens has gotten closer and closer over time.
A photo of Miss Stevens and Officer Norman is on the table in her living room.
She says, “He’s simply the best.”
Even though 85-year-old Miss Stevens has experienced a lot in her life, she claims that Officer Norman was there for her during a difficult period.
“He supported the family during my tragedy,” she remarked. “He simply will not be forgotten as long as I am alive.”
Officer Norman is “just like family,” according to Miss Stevens. So much so that one of her grandchildren has him as their godfather.
Officer Norman has always known where to turn for guidance and a sympathetic ear throughout his career.
He said, “She’ll tell you what you need to hear, even if it’s not what you want to hear.”
Every visit over the last 25 years, whether it lasts five minutes or an hour, has been unforgettable.
Norman claims that he comes away from each appointment feeling like a better person.
