Officials indicate that 1,100 workers will lose their employment following the announcement of the closure of the Cargill turkey plant in Springdale

Springdale, Arkansas – The Minnesota-based food processing business Cargill Incorporated announced on Tuesday that it would shut down its Turkey processing facilities in Springdale.
Cargill said on January 28 that they would be closing their Turkey processing facilities in Springdale by August, which would result in the layoff of about 1,000 workers and 100 local producers.
“Considering the effects on the 1,100 or so employees and local producers, this was not an easy decision to make. But it’s the proper thing to do for our turkey business’s future,” Cargill said in a statement.
The business continued by stating that some of Springdale’s production needs would be moved to its facilities in Missouri and Virginia.
In a statement, the Springdale Chamber acknowledged the plant’s crucial role in the community and local economy. The Chamber organizes community and resource events to assist folks who have lost their jobs.
