Recruiting event held by USPS Little Rock aims to hire 150 drivers
Little Rock, Arkansas – On Tuesday, a hiring event for the United States Postal Service drew long lines of applicants from central Arkansas.
A job fair was organized by the USPS in Little Rock on Tuesday in an attempt to fill 150 driving vacancies for drivers of postal vehicles and tractor-trailers.
Billy Trimble, the logistics manager for USPS in Little Rock, noted that the job fair format is a significant departure from the company’s regular hiring practices because it is a component of the insourcing program.
“This will be the first time in Little Rock’s history that we have hired our own drivers—we have always used contract drivers,” Trimble declared.
Tractor-trailer operators start at $31.47 per hour, paid every two weeks, while postal vehicle operators start at $26.61.
According to Courtney Turner, there will be additional opportunities with this position.
“My current employer has a contract with the post office, so we’re attempting to work directly with them to obtain all benefits and associated benefits,” Turner stated.
Charm As a job seeker, Miller stated that salary was a major consideration and that it might have a significant impact.
“I’m excited about the opportunities because I know it would be a boost for my family and me,” Miller stated.
According to data from the Arkansas Department of Commerce, more people are looking for job, and the unemployment rate decreased by 3.3% in June.
Trimble reported that there was a line of people before the event began, and some USPS employees present reported seeing hundreds of applications.
According to Trimble, the new hires will work remotely and receive full benefits. Although he anticipates that candidates won’t hear back for a few weeks, he expressed excitement about the change.
Trimble stated, “By having our own drivers instead of contracting, we will actually save money.”
