Students from Dover High School use a haunted home to raise money

Dover, Arkansas – On Wednesday night, Dover High campus students and alumni gathered for fun and night screams at a haunted home close to the campus.

It all began when a parent was searching for a good fundraiser idea and discovered an event that consistently attracted a large number of people, according to organizer Ashley Collins.

“And it demonstrated that there was a haunted house or haunted trail a few years ago, and it generated the most revenue,” Collins added.

The haunted house was revived in 2022 after being begun seven years prior, and the proceeds are used to support the seniors at Dover High School for their after-prom.

Collins explained, “We want to keep the kids off the streets and, you know, hold fundraisers to be able to pay for not only the festivities but also to reward them with a nice prize.”

According to her, this has also reduced the number of DWI instances that occur following prom.

It takes roughly three months to prepare the decorations, but Collins says it’s all worthwhile because the town of Dover can enjoy it while supporting the high school graduates.

“In order to get those kids to want to be there instead of being out and making poor choices, we’re going to do as many fundraisers as we have to,” Collins stated.
