Stuttgart police officer died in overnight shooting

Stuttgart, Arkansas – Sergeant Donald Scoby of the Stuttgart Police Department was fatally shot during a nighttime automobile chase, according to officials from the Arkansas State Police on Thursday morning.
Around 11 p.m. on Wednesday, two Stuttgart police officers were involved in a chase, according to the ASP. According to the authorities, suspect Jacob Cole Barnes, 31, halted the vehicle close to Rieger Road and then took off.
ASP officials think that Barnes killed Scoby by shooting at him as the cops chased after him. According to police, the other officer was struck while wearing a bulletproof vest but escaped unharmed.
After the pursuit, according to state troopers, Barnes went into a house in the 500 block of Rieger Road. According to authorities, a woman barricaded herself inside the house but was quickly and safely removed by special agents.
Later, ASP representatives claimed that Barnes shot and hurt a member of the state police SWAT unit. With minor injuries, the state policeman was transferred to a nearby hospital.
According to special agents, the Barnes was killed in a gunfight with SWAT squad members.
The Arkansas State Police are accompanying his body to the Arkansas State Crime Lab.
