The people of North Little Rock view Officer Norman as a father figure
North Little Rock, Arkansas – Tommy Norman, a police officer in North Little Rock, has a friend named Anthony who always has a cheerful attitude.
When Officer Norman pays Anthony a visit, he carries his portable microphone so Anthony can sing.
Among the many songs Anthony chose to perform were “Amazing Grace,” “Mister Telephone Man,” and “Can You Stand the Rain.”
Anthony is a man who has the option of being angry at the world, but he chooses to be joyful instead.
“Why does Anthony smile all the time?” is a question that Anthony claims he receives frequently. “It’s just my personality,” he says in response to the inquiry.
“He’s experienced a lot,” Norman remarked. “I don’t have any complaints because of his testimony.”
Anthony was placed in state care after being placed for adoption; he has half an arm on one side and none on the other. He lost his 26-year wife only five years ago.
With tears in his eyes, Anthony uttered, “I can’t get over, she’s gone.”
However, Anthony’s life changed when Officer Norman noticed him sitting by himself on a bench outside his apartment complex.
Norman remarked, “I think too many people in society have just walked right past him.”
Their relationship has become far stronger than the goodwill with which Norman initially greeted Anthony. Anthony said that he views Officer Norman as “like a dad.”
Norman declared, “I will do everything in my power to fulfill the role of father figure if he can see me as such.”
“I adore Officer Norman,” Anthony declared.
The underlying theme that has developed between them is that until you take the time to meet people where they are in life, you will never truly understand the suffering that lies beyond the cheerful grin.
