This Fourth of July, a survivor of domestic violence starts a nonprofit to inspire and encourage other survivors, sparking change
Little Rock, Arkansas – This Fourth of July, a survivor of domestic abuse is igniting change with her NGO Hope for HOPE by requesting financial donations from people rather than fireworks purchases.
“I was a victim of domestic violence about five years ago and it was definitely the hardest thing I’ve ever been through in my life,” Allison Mcgann said.
After suffering the repercussions of racial injustice, harassment, sexual assault, and domestic abuse herself, Mcgann founded the charity organization Hope for HOPE to support victims and survivors of these crimes.
“During that time, I just felt like there was no one on my side or there was no one there to support me,” Mcgann said.
Her goal is to ensure that a different victim never experiences it.
According to Mcgann, in order to make sure of this, she needs money in order to grow her nonprofit organization and address the growing demands. For this reason, she established the Fireworks of Hope campaign.
“This Fourth of July, give your dog a break from the noise and make a difference instead. For just $10, the cost of a couple of fireworks, you can support domestic violence survivors,” Mcgann said.
According to the National Institutes of Health, about 10 million individuals encounter domestic abuse annually. According to the institute, domestic violence affects one in four women and one in nine males.
“I just decided that you know, I don’t want other people to have to do that alone or feel that way that I did,” Mcgann said.
Hope for HOPE promotes safety, equality, and dignity via all-encompassing assistance, education, awareness, and group action. It also empowers victims via compassion and justice.
“When they feel empowered, then they speak, and they share their story,” Mcgann said.
