University of Arkansas receives $3.1 million to investigate pediatric mitochondrial disorders

Fayetteville, Arkansas – A $3.1 million grant has been given to the University of Arkansas to investigate pediatric mitochondrial illnesses.
The institution was awarded funding by the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development to investigate the condition brought on by abnormalities in the mitochondria, according to our media content partner KNWA.
Officials clarified that these mutations affect various organs and can result in MIMODS, or mitochondria-induced multiple organ disease syndromes.
Dr. Shilpa Iyer, an associate professor of biological sciences, stated that they will investigate the kidney, heart, brain, nerve, muscle, and nerve cells in an effort to discover therapies for the illnesses that cause organ failure.
