USDA opens registration for the Conservation Reserve Program in 2024

Little Rock, Arkansas – Public registration for a conservation program that aims to provide farmers and agricultural producers with the equipment they need to care for their land is now open from March 4 to March 29.

The goal of the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) is to provide farmers with the knowledge they need to preserve both their surroundings and the habitat of wildlife.

“The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has a long track record of fostering and supporting the vital relationship between agriculture and conservation, and the Conservation Reserve Program helps our producers be good stewards of their lands and boost wildlife populations at the same time,” said Doris Washington, Farm Service Agency state executive director in Arkansas.

This initiative, which addresses climate change, preserves wildlife habitat and maintains a level of clean water, is made possible by the 2018 Farm Bill.

“These efforts demonstrate the power of USDA’s Farm Bill conservation programs to conserve wildlife habitat, protect clean water, and address climate change in partnership with farmers, ranchers, forest owners, and conservation organizations across the country,” said Washington.

President Joe Biden extended the Farm Bill, formerly known as the Agriculture Improvement Act of 2018, until November 16, 2023. It will continue to be in effect until September 30, 2024, as stated in the press statement.

Through the initiative, farmers and property owners will have access to a variety of conservation opportunities.
