Why more and more Arkansas children are without health insurance? How this can be solved?
Conway, Arkansas – More and more children in Arkansas are going without health insurance every year. According to latest data, the number of children without health insurance increased for 10,000 in just one year from 2018 to 2019.
The same study shows that in 2021 more than 1 in 5 children is without health insurance.
However, there is organization in Little Rock that helps families in need to get health insurance for children and it’s called ‘Our House’. This organization also notices increased number of applications for health insurance in children.
“It could be because of lost documents or missed appointments,” Hope Johnson with Our House said.
One of those seeking help is Lisa Littles who has three children all under five. She is one among the many struggling with health insurance for her kids.
“[Without] health insurance, you can’t do [anything] that you have to do for your kids,” Littles said.
Right now, Littles is receiving help from Our House and is in the process of getting health insurance for her kids.
She says she couldn’t have done it without the help of the organization and suggests any parents who might be struggling, seek help.
Our House offers free doctors’ appointments for its families weekly.
Anyone with health insurance issues for their children, can contact the organization at 501-374-7383 or email connect@ourhouseshelter.org.
