Women get holiday makeovers from a nonprofit in Arkansas

Little Rock, Arkansas – As Christmas approaches, nonprofit organizations throughout the Natural State are stepping up their efforts to bring some holiday cheer to those in need.
Women With A Purpose, a nonprofit organization, was established by Angelica Jackson. As a mother of three and a survivor of domestic violence, she initiated her efforts to provide hope and support to other women.
After relocating to Little Rock, she was determined to provide women with a gift that would endure through time.
“At a certain point, I recognized the importance of connecting with all shelters to explore potential collaborations.” While scrolling, I came across several mentions of Dorcas House. “I continued my journey and then came across the Dorcas House post requesting volunteers,” Jackson recounted.
Following her outreach to Whitney Lee at Union Rescue Mission, an event titled “Makeover Day for Women in Shelters” was organized.
“The timing was ideal, occurring on the Sunday before Christmas, providing an opportunity for individuals to get their hair and nails done ahead of family gatherings,” Lee stated.
Dorca’s House transformed its dining room into a temporary beauty and nail salon for the day.
Volunteers dedicated their time and efforts to enhance the holiday experience for each woman and child. As attendees departed the event, their faces were lit up with broad smiles.
Jackson described a woman’s joy, stating, “One lady was so happy because she said she never had that, none of that done to her before, makeup and hair done, and she’s never experienced that.”
Lee reflected on the overall experience, noting that two days later, the buzz at Dorcas House was still centered around the remarkable event.
The event offered a significant opportunity to deliver a transformative experience for women seeking to reconnect with a love that had faded over time.
Lee recounted, “As I walked down the hallway, I observed the women gazing into the mirror, affirming to themselves, ‘Wow, I look beautiful.'” “Experiencing trauma and past hurts, such as addiction or domestic violence, can make it challenging to face oneself in the mirror and confidently declare, ‘I am beautiful and I look amazing.'”
Sunday’s holiday makeover event transcended the act of merely offering assistance. The initiative aimed to demonstrate to each woman that her beauty endures timelessly.
Jackson expressed, “We care for you deeply and wish for you to experience a life filled with abundance, as that is the promise made to you.”
